The fourth round of the 2023 GTC Championship took place at the Aldo Scribante circuit in Gqeberha this past weekend (17 June) and although he went into the round feeling confident, Josh le Roux’s hopes of a good showing were dashed following various on track in obstacles.
Josh had a fairly good qualifying session, putting his Master Stairs Audi S3 onto the third row of the grid for the first heat. He had a good start holding on to his position, despite being on the receiving end of a hard back-end knock from the competitor behind him. Josh took the checkered flag in 6th position.
Race 2 started from a completely inverted grid. This put Josh on pole position. Once again, Josh made a good start holding on to his race lead into turn one. He quickly found himself under pressure from the competitors behind him, but remained composed and in control of the race. Unfortunately, patience is no always a racing driver’s virtue and a touch saw Josh being punted off the circuit. The contact also resulted in damage to his Audi’s back wheel. Josh kept his head and nursed his car back to the pits, where the Chemical Logistics team made a rapid wheel change. Josh was able to rejoin the race, albeit not on the same lap as the leaders.
“I am disappointed about the way that the weekend turned out and it really felt like one obstacle after another. It started on Friday, when I experienced some technical difficulties and although my team did a fantastic job replacing the engine overnight, things just didn’t fall into place for us this weekend. I was feeling good about my chances in heat two, but sometimes that is just how racing goes. Thank you to my team, sponsors and supporters, I will continue to give my all in pursuit of my motorsport dreams,” commented Josh.
Josh is proudly sponsored by Master Stairs, Investchem Chemical Logistics, Vitro Frameless Glass, MS Technic – Sparco Store Africa, New Heights and African Heating.
The next round of the GTC Championship will take place in East London on 22 July.
